Beginning ballet students look forward to the day when they will advance to ballet pointe shoes. Ballet pointe shoes have an odd shape, but they allow ballet dancers to dance on the very tips of their toes. More advanced ballet dancing requires ballet pointe shoes.

Dancers are constantly working out, taking class, performing somewhere, so naturally they are thinner than most people. But not the very young students who are in the age group between 7-14. Yes, there are many in that group who are chubby, overweight and just plain FAT.

At the first sound of their name, you will mistake it as another form of ballet that originated in Spandau. Seemingly funny but this has been the common mistake of a number of people.

Ballet is not a new dance form. It has been practiced throughout the world as a form of entertainment since the renaissance, by both boys and girls. Yes, you heard me right! Boys do ballet. So if you are thinking that only girls are accepted to ballet classes, think again. Ballet, for sure, needs boys.

Even if this dance originated in France, due to the great interest of King Louis XIV, Russia made a remarkable contribution to the development of ballet. A testimony to that are their world- renowned dancers such as Olga Preobrazhenskaya, Agrippina Vaganova, Galina Ulanova, Mathilde Kschessinskaya, Tamara Karsavina, Yuri Grigorovich and Konstantin Sergeyev, to name a few.
